Rosie O'Grady's Highlanders

Years of Experience in Entertainment

Rosie O’Grady’s Highlanders have been in existence for over thirty years. The band began its career as the Central Florida Pipes and Drums in 1974. When Bob Snow opened the Church Street Station entertainment complex in 1980, he offered to sponsor the band. Bob asked that we give the band a name that followed the conventions of the Church St. theme, and since the first showplace to open was Rosie O’Grady’s, that was the name we adopted.

Rosie O' Grady's at Church Street Station

As employees of Church Street Station the band was required to regularly perform on Saturday evenings, and for special functions. We were also expected to provide individual pipers and drummers to perform throughout the remainder of the week.

The last official Church Street performance July 24, 2002.

Here the band poses in front of Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Emporium for one last picture. With the closing of Church Street Station we lost our favorite performance venue, but we've maintained the band's name and nature, and the will to carry on. Those performers in the picture who are not in uniform are former members who returned for one last hurrah.

Here's what a recent event organizer had to say about us:

Many thanks to you and the Rosie O'Grady's Highlanders for a moving, prefectly executed performance at the National Garden Clubs Inc.,Convention at the Rosen Centre Hotel.

I have had many "superlative" compliments from members attending your presentation. I was told it was a "one hanky" event but when you played Amazing Grace it became a "two hanky" event. Several said they wanted to hug your young drummer and some just said "WOW".

It is amazing how hearing bagpipes played stirs patriotism in everyone no matter what their heritage and how it deepens a religious fervor no matter what their beliefs.

You and your group are a pleasure to work with and to know. Best wishes to your entire group. May you continue to be an inspiration to all who hear you play.

Please pass my profound thanks and appreciation along to all your members.

    Again, many thanks,

    Norma LaForge
Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc.
